[ PENGER / FINAL STEP ]
Retire the paper copy.
Once your backup is verified, turn the old paper copy into unreadable pulp. Micro-cut, pulp, then inspect.
This paper still holds your recovery words.
Give this step your full attention. Keep the paper under your control throughout, and never photograph your real recovery phrase.
Shred the whole copy.
Use a micro-cut or high-security cross-cut shredder for the paper and any notes containing recovery words. Collect every fragment.
Soak. Then pulp.
Soak all fragments in water until soft, then work them into a uniform fibrous pulp. Wet paper alone is not enough: no intact pieces should remain.
Check before disposal.
Spread out the pulp and inspect it for readable words, sequences or writing impressions. If any remain, repeat with a stronger method before disposal.
No shredder?
Keep the paper secure until suitable equipment is available. Controlled incineration is an alternative in a dedicated facility, with confidential handling and complete destruction verified.
